Introduction

At some point in child’s life they will experience a bereavement. School is of vital importance to young people who are bereaved as it provides a safe, familiar environment with predictable routines, and we know that students who are helped to manage their grief effectively in school are able to recover more quickly.

We have teamed up with Peace Hospice Care, soon to become Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care, to offer this workshop to all school staff.  Their aim is to give those who work with children the knowledge, strategies and confidence to support bereaved students within school in the most successful way possible.

The workshop will cover the following areas

  • Describing how children’s understanding of death changes with age
  • Recognising some of the ways that bereaved children might behave
  • Identifying ways of supporting children who have been bereaved

Aims of the training

  • To empower attendees to have the confidence to support others in their community
  • To feel more confident talking about death, dying, grief and loss
